The Red Oak Community Rural Fire Department Mourns the Loss of Esteemed Firefighter Jay Lyons
The Red Oak Community Rural Fire Department is deeply saddened to announce the untimely passing of our cherished colleague and dear friend, Firefighter Jay Lyons. His sudden departure has cast a profound shadow over our department and the entire Red Oak community. Jay was not only a courageous first responder, but also a devoted mentor, steadfast friend, and a true pillar of service who exemplified the spirit of selflessness and dedication in everything he did.
Jay Lyons served with distinction as a firefighter for over 15 years, ten of which were spent with the Red Oak Community Rural Fire Department. From the very first day he walked through the station doors, Jay’s passion for firefighting and community service was unmistakable. Whether rushing into burning structures to save lives or working tirelessly to support training for the next generation of firefighters, Jay brought unparalleled professionalism, integrity, and heart to his work.
He was known among his peers not only for his quick thinking under pressure but for his unwavering calm in the face of chaos. In moments of crisis, Jay was the kind of firefighter everyone wanted by their side—resolute, brave, and deeply compassionate. His deep knowledge of firefighting techniques, safety procedures, and emergency response made him an invaluable asset to the department. But beyond his technical prowess, Jay will be remembered most for his mentorship. He took young recruits under his wing, teaching not just skills, but values—honor, humility, teamwork, and resilience.
Outside the station, Jay Lyons was equally respected and loved. He was a dedicated family man who found his greatest joy in spending time with his wife, two daughters, and young son. Jay was the type of person who showed up for everyone—neighbors, friends, and complete strangers alike. Whether he was volunteering at local school events, helping organize community fundraisers, or simply checking in on an elderly neighbor, his kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Jay’s passing leaves a void that cannot be filled. Our department has lost more than a firefighter; we have lost a brother. The community has lost a protector. His legacy, however, lives on in the lives he saved, the people he inspired, and the values he stood for. We are committed to honoring Jay’s memory by continuing the work he was so passionate about—serving Red Oak with the same courage and compassion he showed every day.
In the coming days, the Red Oak Community Rural Fire Department will hold a public memorial service to celebrate Jay’s life and legacy. Details will be shared with the community shortly. We invite all who knew and loved Jay to join us in paying tribute to a truly extraordinary man.
To Jay Lyons—thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and your unwavering spirit. You will never be forgotten. May you rest in peace, knowing your legacy lives on in every flame we face, every life we touch, and every call we answer in your honor.
