Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez, the 56-year-old man accused of fatally shooting actor Jonathan Joss, has been released on a $200,000 bond and placed under full house arrest. Joss, best known for voicing John Redcorn in “King of the Hill,” was killed on June 1, 2025, outside his former home in San Antonio. The incident followed a long-standing feud between Joss and Alvarez, with over 70 police calls to the residence since January 2024. Alvarez allegedly confessed to the shooting upon arrest, stating, “I shot him.”
Joss’s husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, described the shooting as a homophobic hate crime, citing years of harassment and a disturbing discovery of their dog’s skull prior to the incident. However, the San Antonio Police Department has stated that there is no current evidence linking the murder to Joss’s sexual orientation but remains open to reviewing additional evidence if it emerges.
The case has drawn public and political attention, with figures like Representative Joaquin Castro and the Human Rights Campaign highlighting concerns about potential anti-LGBTQ+ violence. A vigil organized by Pride Center San Antonio is scheduled for June 8 to honor Joss and call for justice.
Joss, a San Antonio native of Comanche and White Mountain Apache descent, had a notable career in television and music. He voiced John Redcorn in “King of the Hill” and portrayed Chief Ken Hotate in “Parks and Recreation.” Before his death, he had returned to record for a revival of “King of the Hill
A pre-indictment hearing for Alvarez is scheduled for August. The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
