Tallahassee Tragedy: 25-Year-Old Deric Young Indicted for First-Degree Murder and Aggravated Child Abuse in Death of 1-Year-Old Ky’meria German

TALLAHASSEE, FL — A community is grappling with shock, anger, and sorrow following the indictment of 25-year-old Deric Young on charges of first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse in connection with the heartbreaking death of 1-year-old Ky’meria German. The tragic incident has sparked widespread outrage, grief, and renewed calls for awareness around child safety and accountability in caregiving.

According to authorities, the investigation began after emergency medical services responded to a distress call regarding an unresponsive infant in Tallahassee. Upon arrival, first responders found baby Ky’meria suffering from severe injuries that were inconsistent with normal childhood accidents. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, the child was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Tallahassee Police detectives launched an immediate and intensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ky’meria’s death. In the course of their inquiries, they interviewed Deric Young — believed to be the mother’s boyfriend and the primary adult present at the time of the incident. According to the police report, Young admitted to punching the 1-year-old girl while he claimed he was “playing” with her. However, authorities found his explanation not only disturbing but also inconsistent with the nature and severity of the child’s injuries.

The medical examiner’s report later confirmed that Ky’meria suffered blunt force trauma and internal injuries that were indicative of violent abuse. These findings, combined with Young’s admission and additional evidence collected from the scene, led to a grand jury indictment for first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse.

“This is one of the most heartbreaking and gut-wrenching cases we’ve encountered,” said Chief Lawrence Revell of the Tallahassee Police Department during a press conference. “A 1-year-old child—just a baby—was taken from this world in an act of unspeakable violence. We are committed to seeking full justice for Ky’meria and ensuring the person responsible is held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”

Prosecutors with the State Attorney’s Office have indicated they will be pursuing the maximum penalties allowed under Florida law. First-degree murder is a capital offense in the state and carries the possibility of life imprisonment without parole or even the death penalty. Aggravated child abuse, a first-degree felony, also carries a lengthy prison sentence.

The case has not only shocked local residents but also prompted vigils and memorials in Ky’meria’s name. Community members have left stuffed animals, flowers, and candles near the family’s residence in remembrance of the infant who, by all accounts, was a joyful and beloved child.

“She was just learning to walk and talk. She had the sweetest little smile,” said one neighbor, who asked to remain anonymous. “To know that someone could hurt her in that way—it’s devastating.”

Family members of Ky’meria are now left to mourn a life cut short in the most horrific way. Loved ones have described her as a bubbly, curious baby who brought joy to everyone around her. In a brief but emotional statement, the child’s mother said, “I will never understand why or how this happened. She was my heart, my everything. No child should ever suffer like this.”

Child welfare advocates are once again emphasizing the importance of awareness and intervention in domestic environments where young children are present. They urge friends, neighbors, and family members to speak up and report any signs of potential abuse, no matter how uncertain.

The legal process now begins for Deric Young, who remains in custody at the Leon County Jail without bond. He is expected to make his next court appearance in the coming weeks as the case moves toward trial. If convicted, he faces the gravest of consequences.

As the community tries to process this tragedy, there is one common thread that unites everyone: the desire for justice for baby Ky’meria. Her name, her memory, and her story have already left a mark on Tallahassee—and now it is the responsibility of the justice system to ensure that her life, though short, is not forgotten.

A GoFundMe campaign has been created to assist the family with funeral expenses and grief counseling. Community organizations are also planning forums and workshops to raise awareness about child abuse and promote safer environments for children.

In the wake of this sorrow, one tiny life serves as a reminder of the fragility of innocence—and the urgent responsibility to protect it.

TODDLER DEATH: Heartbreaking Loss as 2-Year-Old Fairfield Boy Dies One Week After Being Pulled From Backyard Pool

FAIRFIELD, CALIFORNIA – The Fairfield community is mourning the tragic loss of a precious young life, after a 2-year-old boy passed away nearly a week after a heartbreaking accident in his family’s backyard. The toddler, lovingly identified by family members as Mateo Rodriguez, died Monday evening following a valiant fight for his life after being found unresponsive in a swimming pool.

According to family accounts, the devastating incident occurred last week at the family’s home in a quiet suburban neighborhood of Fairfield. On that day, Mateo had briefly slipped away from the watchful eyes of his parents. Moments later, a scream shattered the afternoon calm as his mother discovered her son floating in the backyard pool.

Emergency crews arrived swiftly after a 911 call was placed, and first responders immediately began performing CPR before rushing the child to a nearby hospital. Mateo was placed on life support in the pediatric intensive care unit, where doctors worked tirelessly to stabilize him. Despite their efforts and the unwavering prayers and hope from family, friends, and community members, the child succumbed to his injuries nearly seven days later.

“This is every parent’s worst nightmare,” said Maria Gonzalez, a family friend and neighbor who has known the Rodriguezes for several years. “They are absolutely shattered. Mateo was a joyful, sweet little boy — always smiling, always running around with so much energy. It just doesn’t seem real.”

Mateo’s parents, Luis and Angela Rodriguez, issued a brief, tearful statement through a family spokesperson:

“Our hearts are broken beyond words. Mateo was the light of our lives — our sunshine, our baby. He fought so hard, and we held onto hope with every breath. We are grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support. Please continue to keep our family in your hearts.”

The family had recently installed a new safety fence around the pool earlier this year, according to neighbors. However, investigators believe the child may have found a way through a small opening. Authorities confirmed that no foul play is suspected and have categorized the event as a tragic accident.

Child safety experts stress the importance of layers of protection when it comes to residential pools, particularly in households with young children. Drowning is the leading cause of accidental death among children aged 1 to 4 in the United States. Experts emphasize that supervision, pool fencing, alarms, and swim lessons can significantly reduce the risk of such heartbreaking events.

As news of Mateo’s passing spread, an outpouring of grief flooded social media. A GoFundMe page launched to assist the family with medical and funeral expenses has already received thousands of dollars in donations from both local residents and strangers touched by the tragedy.

Community member Carla Mendez, who helped organize a candlelight vigil in Mateo’s memory, shared her sorrow:

“It’s hard to process something so awful. We came together to pray for a miracle — and even though he didn’t come home, he touched so many lives in his short time here.”

Mateo’s favorite color was blue, and community members are now being encouraged to tie blue ribbons on their mailboxes and trees in his honor. A memorial service is being planned for the coming week, and the family has expressed their desire to use Mateo’s story as a way to spread awareness about child pool safety, in the hopes of preventing another family from experiencing such devastation.

In the wake of this loss, Fairfield stands united in grief, holding the Rodriguez family close in thought and spirit. Mateo’s name now echoes through the hearts of many — a tiny boy whose life, though far too brief, left a lasting impact.

May little Mateo rest in peace, forever remembered, forever loved. 💙

Beloved Music Icon George “Fiji” Brooks Veikoso Passes Away at 55

Fiji/Honolulu — The music world is mourning the loss of a beloved voice whose artistry transcended oceans, borders, and generations. George Brooks Veikoso, affectionately known to fans around the globe as “Fiji,” passed away on Wednesday at the age of 55. The celebrated Fijian-Hawaiian recording artist died peacefully in his homeland of Fiji, surrounded by close family members and loved ones.

Fiji was more than just a musician—he was a cultural ambassador, a voice of the islands, and a pioneer in blending traditional Pacific Island sounds with contemporary reggae, R&B, and hip-hop. With a career spanning over three decades, Fiji left an indelible mark on the music scenes in both Hawaii and the wider Pacific region. His music served as a bridge between generations and cultures, offering listeners an unmistakable blend of soulful vocals, island rhythms, and heartfelt messages of love, unity, and identity.

A Titan of Island Reggae and Pacific Soul

Born in Fiji and raised in Hawaii, Fiji was immersed in rich musical traditions from a young age. His upbringing exposed him to the spiritual and melodic harmonies of his homeland and the vibrant reggae and soul movements of Hawaii. These influences would later become the foundation of a unique sound that made him a household name throughout Oceania and among Polynesian communities across the world.

Fiji’s 1994 breakout album “Evolution” showcased his rare vocal talent and songwriting brilliance, earning him instant acclaim and establishing him as a driving force in the island reggae movement. Hits like “Sweet Darlin’,” “Lauga Sa Vosa,” “Smokin’ Session,” and “Naughty Girl” captured the hearts of fans not only in Hawaii and Fiji, but also in California, New Zealand, Australia, and beyond.

Over the years, Fiji collaborated with a wide range of artists, including J Boog, The Mana’o Company, Kapena, Tenelle, and Sammy J, helping to shape the sound of modern Polynesian reggae and soul music. His ability to infuse traditional island instrumentation with smooth R&B melodies and socially conscious lyrics set him apart in a genre that he helped define and elevate.

    An Advocate and Mentor

Beyond his music, Fiji was revered for his humility, humor, and dedication to uplifting others. He was known to be a generous mentor to younger artists, often using his platform to spotlight up-and-coming talent from Pacific Island communities. His passion for cultural preservation and empowerment resonated deeply with fans, and he never shied away from addressing important social issues, including identity, family, and the legacy of colonialism.

His contributions earned him numerous accolades throughout his career, including multiple Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards—Hawaii’s premier music honors—and widespread recognition as a legend in the reggae and island music worlds.

    A Deeply Personal Loss

The news of Fiji’s passing has sent shockwaves across the Pacific and throughout global music circles. Tributes have poured in from fellow musicians, fans, and cultural leaders who credit Fiji with inspiring a generation of artists and putting Pacific Island music on the map.

Hawaii Governor Josh Green issued a statement saying, “Fiji was a true son of the Pacific whose voice echoed through our islands with messages of peace, strength, and pride. His music was the soundtrack of our lives. We honor his legacy and extend our deepest condolences to his family.”

On social media, artists like J Boog and Common Kings posted heartfelt tributes to their “brother,” expressing gratitude for his guidance, his generosity, and the unforgettable imprint he left on their lives and music.

    Remembering the Legacy

Fiji’s music was rooted in his love for his people, his heritage, and his homeland. Through his lyrics and performances, he offered a powerful affirmation of Pacific Island identity—proud, resilient, and full of aloha. Even in death, his voice continues to speak to the soul of his people.

He leaves behind a treasure trove of songs that will be cherished for generations and a legacy that goes far beyond the stage. His life’s work wasn’t just about entertainment—it was about connection, pride, and storytelling.

George “Fiji” Veikoso is survived by his children, siblings, extended family, and the countless fans who considered him part of their own ohana. Funeral services are expected to be held in Fiji, with memorial celebrations also being planned in Hawaii and California to honor his extraordinary life and musical journey.

As the sun sets over the Pacific tonight, the islands remember a voice that will never fade—a voice that sang not just from the throat, but from the heart of a people. Rest in aloha, Fiji. Your spirit and song live on.

  • We are immeasurably heartbroken and shocked to have to announce the sudden and peaceful passing of our one-of-a-kind Dad, Warren Ralph

We are immeasurably heartbroken and shocked to have to announce the sudden and peaceful passing of our one-of-a-kind Dad, Warren Ralph

We are immeasurably heartbroken and shocked to have to announce the sudden and peaceful passing of our one-of-a-kind Dad, Warren Ralph. On a quiet morning that will forever be etched in our hearts, Warren left this world far too soon, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, strength, and unforgettable memories. His departure was unexpected, and though it came peacefully, the void it has left is indescribable.

Warren was not just a father. He was a best friend, a teacher, a storyteller, a rock in the storm, and the kind of man who left an impression on everyone he met. He had a way of making people feel seen, heard, and valued — whether through a long conversation at the kitchen table, a joke to lighten the mood, or his ever-dependable shoulder to lean on. He brought light and warmth to every room he entered, and his presence made everyone feel safe.

Born with a generous heart and an adventurous spirit, Warren lived life fully and authentically. He loved the outdoors, good music, working with his hands, and the simple beauty in everyday moments — a fresh cup of coffee, a well-worn book, a spontaneous road trip. He valued honesty and hard work, believed in doing right by others, and lived every day with integrity and grace. His laughter — full-bellied and contagious — will echo in our memories forever.

As a father, Warren was our guiding compass. He never missed a game, recital, or important milestone. He offered wisdom without judgment and discipline with deep compassion. He taught us the value of resilience, how to treat people with kindness, and to never stop learning or growing. His pride in us was constant, and his love was unwavering.

To his friends, Warren was fiercely loyal — always the first to offer help and the last to expect anything in return. He had a way of making even strangers feel like old friends. To his community, he was known for his quiet acts of generosity and his willingness to lend a hand when needed. To his colleagues, he was dependable, diligent, and deeply respected.

Warren’s passing has left a ripple of grief through the hearts of all who knew him. Yet in our sorrow, we also find immense gratitude. We are thankful for every moment we had with him — for every holiday, every lesson, every laugh, every hug. He loved deeply and was deeply loved in return.

He is survived by his children, who adored and admired him beyond words, and by extended family members, lifelong friends, and a community that will forever cherish his memory. Though he may no longer walk beside us in life, his spirit will remain alive in every sunset he loved, in every melody he hummed, and in every life he touched.

In the days to come, we will gather to celebrate Warren’s life — not just to mourn his loss, but to honor the incredible man he was. We’ll share stories, tears, laughter, and love, just as he would have wanted. We ask that you carry his memory forward by being kind, loving freely, and living life with the same authenticity and courage that defined him.

Rest peacefully, Dad. You were our everything. Your love, your lessons, and your legacy will forever be carried in our hearts. Until we meet again.

    March 12, 1937 – July 22, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Myra “Joy” Joyce Camp, age 88, of Ringgold, Georgia. Surrounded by love and in the comfort of her home, Joy went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 22, 2025. Her journey here on earth came to a peaceful end, but her legacy of kindness, grace, and unwavering faith will forever live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know her.

Born on March 12, 1937, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Joy was the cherished daughter of the late Charlie and Ollie Young. She was raised in a home filled with warmth, faith, and integrity—values that would go on to shape every aspect of her life. Joy was a proud lifelong resident of the North Georgia region, and her deep roots in the community were matched only by her unshakable devotion to her family and church.

Joy was a faithful member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, where she worshipped and served for many years. Her dedication to her church family was evident in her regular presence at services, Sunday school classes, and her enthusiastic participation in church events. She loved nothing more than spending time with them, whether it was cheering them on at school events, hosting holiday dinners, or sharing stories and wisdom passed down through generations. Her kitchen was the heart of the home, always filled with the comforting aroma of her famous home-cooked meals and the laughter of loved ones gathered around her table. Cooking wasn’t just a chore for Joy—it was an act of love.
