In Loving Memory of Kenneth Johnson
January 3, 1950 – June 5, 2025

Drakesville, Iowa – The community of Drakesville mourns the sudden and heartbreaking loss of Kenneth Johnson, 75, who passed away on June 5, 2025, following a tragic accident in rural Davis County. His unexpected departure has left a deep void in the hearts of his family, friends, and neighbors who knew and cherished him for his unwavering kindness, strong work ethic, and enduring commitment to his community.

Born on January 3, 1950, in Bloomfield, Iowa, Kenneth was a lifelong Iowan and a pillar in the Drakesville area. He was the son of Harold and Mary Johnson, both of whom preceded him in death. Kenneth spent his early years learning the values of hard work and family, which would go on to define the rest of his life. Raised on a family farm just outside Drakesville, he developed a deep appreciation for the land, the seasons, and the spirit of rural life. Farming was not just a career for Kenneth—it was a calling, one he answered with pride and dedication for over five decades.

Kenneth graduated from Davis County High School in 1968 and soon after took over the family farm, where he grew row crops and raised livestock. He became a trusted and well-respected figure in the agricultural community, known for his wisdom, quiet leadership, and willingness to lend a helping hand to neighbors in need. Over the years, Kenneth adapted to many changes in farming technology, but his respect for the land and his belief in honest labor never changed.

In 1971, Kenneth married the love of his life, Elaine (Miller) Johnson, and together they built a beautiful life rooted in faith, love, and mutual respect. The couple celebrated 53 years of marriage this past spring. Their union was blessed with three children—Mark, Rachel, and Timothy—all of whom remember their father as a man of quiet strength, deep faith, and steady love.

Kenneth was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His grandchildren fondly remember fishing trips, tractor rides, and his famous homemade pancakes on Sunday mornings. He never missed a school concert, 4-H competition, or little league game if he could help it, and he was known for his gentle spirit and heartfelt encouragement. His wisdom and stories—often shared on long walks through the fields or under the stars—will live on in the memories of those he loved.

Beyond his family and farm, Kenneth was active in the Drakesville United Methodist Church, where he served as an elder and Sunday school teacher for many years. He was a man of strong Christian faith who lived by example, treating everyone with respect and compassion. He also volunteered with local charities and participated in several farm advocacy groups, always seeking to support others and strengthen his community.

Tragically, Kenneth’s life was cut short in an accident that occurred on the morning of June 5, while he was tending to his land in rural Davis County. Though he passed away doing what he loved, his loss has cast a deep shadow over those who relied on his presence, his wisdom, and his heart.

Kenneth is survived by his loving wife Elaine; his children Mark Johnson (Sarah) of Ottumwa, Rachel Greene (Michael) of Fairfield, and Timothy Johnson (Amy) of Drakesville; and his beloved grandchildren Caleb, Grace, Ella, Jackson, and Luke. He is also survived by his sister, Linda Carpenter of Bloomfield, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a younger brother, Thomas Johnson.

A visitation will be held at Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield on Monday, June 9, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at Drakesville United Methodist Church on Tuesday, June 10 at 10:30 a.m., with burial to follow at the Drakesville Cemetery. Friends, family, and members of the community are warmly invited to attend and share memories of a life beautifully lived.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Davis County FFA Chapter or the Drakesville United Methodist Church Building Fund, in honor of Kenneth’s enduring legacy of service, growth, and faith.

Though he may be gone from our sight, Kenneth Johnson will forever remain in our hearts. His life was a testament to the power of humility, hard work, and love—and his memory will continue to inspire all who knew him.
