TRAGIC TURN IN COLORADO: Melinda Rose Found Dead Just Hours After Police Urged Her to Leave Abusive Husband

TRAGIC TURN IN COLORADO: Melinda Rose Found Dead Just Hours After Police Urged Her to Leave Abusive Husband

A haunting tragedy unfolded in Colorado just hours after local authorities responded to a domestic violence call involving 36-year-old Melinda Rose and her husband, Ryan Rose. Despite police urging Melinda to leave for her own safety, she was later found deceased inside her bedroom — the victim of what investigators believe was a murder-suicide carried out by her estranged husband, Ryan.

The heartbreaking series of events began earlier that day when concerned neighbors contacted police after hearing shouting and signs of physical struggle coming from the couple’s home. Responding officers arrived at the residence to find Ryan had already fled the scene, but signs of a serious domestic altercation were evident. Melinda, shaken and visibly distressed, shared details of a prolonged pattern of abuse — both emotional and physical — that had escalated significantly in recent weeks.

According to authorities, while the officers prepared a warrant for Ryan’s arrest, they had a candid and emotional conversation with Melinda. They strongly urged her to leave the home for her own safety, suggesting options such as staying with family, checking into a local shelter, or even remaining under police protection until Ryan could be apprehended. Tragically, Melinda declined. Sources close to the family say she didn’t believe Ryan would return so soon — or that he would harm her.

A few short hours later, those fears were devastatingly realized.

Around 10 p.m., Ryan returned to the house, reportedly in search of a weapon. Investigators believe he forced his way inside and confronted Melinda in the bedroom. What followed was a fatal encounter that left Melinda lifeless and Ryan dead from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Both were discovered by law enforcement shortly after midnight when officers, unable to reach Melinda by phone, returned to the residence to check on her welfare.

The loss of Melinda Rose has sent shockwaves through the community. Friends and neighbors described her as a kind-hearted, creative woman with a quiet strength and a deep love for animals and gardening. She worked as a veterinary technician and often volunteered her time at local shelters. Those who knew her say she had a gentle soul and carried herself with grace, even through difficult times.

“Melinda always had a smile for everyone,” said her friend and co-worker, Jenna Collins. “She loved deeply — maybe too deeply — and believed in forgiveness even when she was hurting. It breaks my heart that love and hope weren’t enough to protect her.”

Authorities say the case remains under investigation, but the evidence points strongly to a murder-suicide. They are also reviewing whether additional steps could have been taken to ensure Melinda’s protection following the initial domestic call earlier in the day.

Domestic violence advocates in the region are using Melinda’s tragic story to raise awareness about the importance of immediate intervention and support for victims — especially when their abuser is still at large.

“This is the kind of tragedy we fight every day to prevent,” said Danielle Rivers, a spokesperson for Safe Horizons Colorado. “Melinda did not deserve to die. Her story underscores the need for stronger, more proactive protections for domestic violence victims — including emergency housing, faster judicial responses, and survivor-led safety planning.”

Melinda’s family, while devastated, has shared a message with the public: “If you are in a situation that feels unsafe — even if you think it will get better — please reach out. Please don’t wait. We waited one day too long.”

Melinda Rose is survived by her parents, a younger sister, and two beloved rescue dogs who are now being cared for by family. A candlelight vigil is being planned in her honor this week at the community park where she often walked with her pets.

Her life was one of compassion and quiet courage. Her death, a sobering reminder of the deadly cost of domestic violence. May her memory be a call to action — and may her voice live on in the efforts to protect others

TRAGEDY IN HA LONG BAY: At Least 27 Dead After Tourist Boat Capsizes — A Mother’s Heroic Act Ends in Devastating Loss

HA LONG BAY, VIETNAM — July 20, 2025

A devastating tragedy has unfolded in one of Vietnam’s most iconic natural landmarks. At least 27 people — including 8 children — have been confirmed dead after a tourist boat carrying families and vacationers capsized during an afternoon cruise through Ha Long Bay on Saturday. Among the victims are local residents and international travelers who had come to witness the bay’s breathtaking limestone cliffs and emerald waters.

Authorities report that 42 people were onboard the double-deck wooden vessel when it encountered sudden, violent weather. Survivors say the boat began to tilt after being hit by a strong gust of wind and high waves that appeared without warning. Within minutes, the vessel began to take on water and flipped, plunging dozens into the sea.

    A Mother’s Heroism — and a Heartbreaking Loss

Among the stories emerging from the wreckage is one that has pierced the hearts of the nation: the story of 34-year-old Nguyen Thi Lan, a mother from Hanoi who was aboard the boat with her husband, 8-year-old son Bao, and a close-knit group of fellow families.

As chaos erupted and screams filled the air, Nguyen Lan sprang into action. According to witnesses, she helped pull three strangers — including a teenager and an elderly woman — onto a floating piece of wreckage, urging them to hold on as she searched desperately for her family in the murky, debris-filled waters.

“I kept hearing her shout, ‘Where is Bao? Where is my son?’” recounted survivor Le Tuan Anh, who was clinging to the side of the wreckage. “She was swimming back and forth, pushing people toward safety, even as her own child was lost.”

When rescuers finally arrived nearly 40 minutes later, Nguyen was pulled from the water unconscious, still clutching the life vest she had intended for her son. Bao and her husband, Minh, were later found by divers — both lifeless, their bodies pulled from the depths just meters from where the boat had gone down.

Nguyen is currently recovering in a hospital in Quang Ninh Province, surrounded by family and grief-stricken passengers who say she gave everything she had in those terrifying moments.

“She saved me,” said one teenager, through tears. “I’m alive because of her. And yet she lost her whole world.”

Survivors Question Last Words of the Captain

Adding another layer to the tragedy are the chilling final moments before the boat sank — and the questions now swirling around the actions of the captain and crew.

Several passengers recall hearing the captain shout what many interpreted as a warning or cryptic final statement: “Hold tight — this is the end.” Some say he vanished moments later, leaving passengers to fend for themselves as panic spread.

“I thought he meant the storm,” said a survivor from Australia. “But then he ran, and I never saw him again.”

Authorities have confirmed that the captain, whose identity has not yet been released, is among the missing. It is unclear whether he is dead, escaped, or in hiding. Officials are investigating the vessel’s safety compliance and whether the boat was operating legally under Vietnam’s strict tourist licensing rules.

    Children Among the Dead

Among the 27 confirmed dead are eight children between the ages of 4 and 13. Some were on vacation with extended families; others were part of a local school group celebrating the end of exams.

One of the most heartbreaking images to emerge is that of a waterlogged teddy bear recovered by rescue teams — a silent witness to the lives that were cut tragically short.

“I saw tiny shoes floating near me,” one rescuer said. “It was unbearable.”

    Government Response and National Mourning

Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has called for an immediate investigation and declared two days of national mourning. In a televised address, he said: “This is not only a tragedy of the sea, but of human loss, of family, of trust. We must find the truth, and we must do better.”

Emergency crews continue to search the bay for possible survivors or bodies still trapped in the wreck. Local fishermen have joined in, offering their boats and knowledge of the water to assist rescue teams.

Vigils have already begun across the country. In Hanoi, hundreds gathered near Hoan Kiem Lake, lighting candles and releasing paper lanterns into the water in memory of those who never made it back from the bay.

    A Nation Grieves, and Remembers

For many, this tragedy will forever change the way Ha Long Bay is seen — not just as a destination of beauty, but now also as a place of profound sorrow.

Nguyen Thi Lan’s story, in particular, has become emblematic of the heartbreak and heroism seen on that day. As one online tribute read: “She gave others life while losing her own reason to live. May we never forget the mother in the water, searching for her boy in the storm.”

As Vietnam mourns, questions will be asked, answers demanded, and accountability pursued. But for the families who boarded that boat with dreams of a peaceful escape, the only thing they are left with is silence — and the crashing of waves against a wounded shore.

UC Athletics Mourns the Loss of Legendary Coach Bill Schnier

UC Athletics Mourns the Loss of Legendary Coach Bill Schnier

The University of Cincinnati community is mourning the profound loss of a true icon in Bearcats athletics — Coach Bill Schnier, who passed away leaving behind a legacy that forever changed the trajectory of UC Track & Field and Cross Country. From 1980 to 2013, Schnier served as the head coach of the Cincinnati Bearcats men’s and women’s Track & Field and Cross Country programs, building them into competitive powerhouses and shaping countless lives along the way.

Over his remarkable 33-year tenure, Schnier became synonymous with excellence, consistency, and mentorship. Under his leadership, the Bearcats blossomed from a regional competitor into a nationally respected program. He coached 136 individual conference champions, 25 NCAA championship meet qualifiers, 10 All-Americans, and two Olympic medalists — numbers that speak volumes about his vision, his work ethic, and his unrelenting belief in the potential of his student-athletes.

But beyond the numbers, Schnier’s greatest contribution was his unwavering dedication to his athletes as students, individuals, and lifelong learners. His coaching style was firm yet compassionate, his expectations high but always clear. Former athletes fondly recall how “Coach” not only molded them into faster runners or stronger jumpers, but also into better people. He saw the bigger picture — the growth of character, the value of education, and the importance of representing UC with integrity.

Coach Schnier’s influence extended far beyond the track. He played a crucial role in UC’s transition through different conferences, including the move to the Big East, and remained a steady pillar of leadership through changing athletic landscapes. He was an advocate for equal opportunities in sports, instrumental in fostering the growth of women’s track and cross country programs, and a strong supporter of academic achievement among his athletes.

His legacy also lives on through the two Olympic medalists he coached — testaments to the elite caliber of athletes developed under his guidance. But even those who never stood on a national podium speak reverently of Coach Schnier as a life mentor, a moral compass, and a father figure.

In 2013, after over three decades of distinguished service, Coach Schnier retired, leaving behind a program transformed by his influence. He didn’t leave quietly, however. The university honored his career by naming the indoor track within UC’s Armory Fieldhouse in his name — a rare and fitting tribute to a man who gave his all to the Bearcat family.

Since his retirement, Coach Schnier remained involved with the UC community, often attending meets, mentoring young coaches, and always rooting for his beloved Bearcats. He was also a noted speaker and advocate for youth sports, often emphasizing the role athletics plays in personal development and educational success.

Bill Schnier’s passing leaves an immense void, not only within the University of Cincinnati but in the greater world of collegiate athletics. He was a coach, a builder, a mentor, and a man who truly lived the values he taught.

UC Athletics extends its deepest condolences to Coach Schnier’s family, friends, former athletes, and colleagues. As the Bearcat community reflects on his life, we remember him not only for the medals and accolades, but for the inspiration, courage, and heart he brought to every race, every practice, and every life he touched.

Rest in peace, Coach Schnier. Your legacy runs deep — in every lap, every record, and every Bearcat who ever dared to dream bigger because of your belief in them.

TRAGIC CRASH NEAR FEVERSHAM CLAIMS TWO LIVES, OPP SEEKING WITNESSES

Feversham, Ontario — A tragic motor vehicle collision near the small community of Feversham has left two men dead and another individual with serious injuries, prompting an urgent investigation by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). Authorities are now reaching out to the public, appealing for witnesses who may have seen the fatal crash unfold or who may have relevant information that could aid in the ongoing investigation.

The devastating incident occurred late in the evening on a rural stretch of Grey County Road, just outside Feversham, a tight-knit community nestled in Grey Highlands. Emergency crews responded to a 911 call reporting a severe collision involving a single vehicle that appeared to have left the roadway and crashed into a wooded area.

Upon arrival, first responders discovered a grim scene. Two adult male occupants were pronounced dead at the scene. A third occupant—who remains unidentified at this time—was found with life-threatening injuries and was immediately transported by air ambulance to a trauma centre in Toronto. Their condition remains critical.

Investigators from the OPP Highway Safety Division, alongside forensic collision reconstructionists, have cordoned off the area to conduct a thorough examination of the scene. At this point, police have not confirmed the cause of the crash, but are investigating several possible contributing factors including speed, driver impairment, mechanical failure, or road conditions.

“This is a devastating event for the families involved and the entire community,” said OPP Constable Devon LeClair during a press briefing. “We are doing everything we can to understand what led to this crash and bring clarity to those mourning the loss of their loved ones. We are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or saw a vehicle driving erratically in the area near the time of the incident, to contact us immediately.”

Police have not yet released the names of the deceased, pending notification of next of kin. However, community members have already begun placing flowers and handwritten notes near the crash site, as word spreads through the region about the tragic loss. Feversham, known for its close-knit population and peaceful countryside, has been rocked by the news.

Grey Highlands Mayor Paul McQueen issued a statement expressing condolences: “Our hearts go out to the families affected by this terrible tragedy. The loss of two lives is a painful reminder of how quickly things can change on our roads. We encourage everyone to be safe and vigilant, and we fully support the OPP in their search for answers.”

As the investigation continues, police are asking anyone with dashboard camera footage, photos, or who may have been traveling in the vicinity of Grey County Road 2 and Side Road 22 on the evening of the crash to come forward. They can contact the Grey Bruce OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or report anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

Grief counselors and victim services are being made available to those affected, including first responders and nearby residents who arrived at the scene before emergency crews.
