A man has been taken into custody following a coordinated investigation into a drive-by shooting that rattled the quiet community of Snow Hill, North Carolina. Authorities say the arrest comes as a result of an intensive collaborative effort between the Snow Hill Police Department and the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, who worked tirelessly in the days following the violent incident to bring the suspect to justice.
The shooting occurred in the early evening hours on a quiet residential street, sending shockwaves through the neighborhood as multiple gunshots rang out from a moving vehicle. Witnesses reported seeing a dark-colored car speeding away from the scene moments after the shots were fired. While initial reports indicated no fatalities, at least one individual was injured in the attack and was transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment. Their condition has since been stabilized, according to hospital officials.
In the immediate aftermath, law enforcement agencies mobilized a joint task force, combining resources and intelligence to identify and apprehend the individual responsible. Detectives conducted a series of interviews with local residents, reviewed surveillance footage from homes and businesses in the vicinity, and collected forensic evidence left at the scene. The investigation led to a breakthrough when a vehicle matching the description provided by witnesses was located on the outskirts of town.
Officers executed a search warrant on the vehicle and a nearby residence, where they discovered evidence linking the suspect to the drive-by shooting, including ammunition, firearms, and articles of clothing worn during the incident. Shortly after, a suspect—identified as 27-year-old Darnell Javon Parker—was arrested without incident. Authorities confirmed that Parker has a history of involvement in gang-related activities and is known to law enforcement.
“This arrest represents a significant step in ensuring public safety and restoring peace in our community,” said Snow Hill Police Chief Kimberly Fields. “We are grateful for the swift action and unwavering support from the Greene County Sheriff’s Office. Their assistance was critical to the success of this operation.”
Greene County Sheriff Mike Whitfield echoed those sentiments in a joint press conference held Thursday morning. “This kind of senseless violence will not be tolerated in Greene County or anywhere else in Eastern North Carolina,” he said. “We’re committed to working together with our local partners to dismantle the networks and individuals that think they can get away with this kind of behavior.”
Parker has been charged with multiple felony offenses, including assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Additional charges may follow as the investigation continues. He is currently being held at the Greene County Detention Center without bond.
Investigators are continuing to determine whether the shooting was a targeted attack or a broader act of violence linked to criminal organizations. They are also probing whether other individuals may have been involved in orchestrating or carrying out the drive-by.
Community leaders have voiced concern over the growing number of gun-related incidents in the region and are calling for increased community engagement, youth intervention programs, and stricter enforcement of firearm regulations. A candlelight vigil is being planned by local residents to support the victim and send a message that violence has no place in their town.
Anyone with additional information about the case is urged to contact the Snow Hill Police Department or the Greene County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities hope that continued cooperation with the public will help prevent future tragedies and bring any additional suspects to light.
As the legal process moves forward, both agencies are vowing to remain vigilant and proactive, sending a strong message to those who would attempt to disrupt the peace in their communities: justice will be served.
