In Loving Memory of Dorothy “Sheila” Antoine
July 12, 2025 | Age 81 | Roseau Valley, Anse La Raye
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the Antoine Family of Roseau announces the passing of a beloved matriarch, a woman of incredible strength, grace, and unwavering dedication—Dorothy “Sheila” Antoine. A lifelong resident of Roseau Valley, Anse La Raye, Sheila passed away peacefully on July 12th, 2025, at the age of 81.
Sheila was much more than just a name or a familiar face in the community—she was a symbol of resilience, kindness, and unwavering love. Known affectionately as “Mam” by many, she embodied everything that was good and true about family and community. Her hands were rarely still—always busy preparing meals for others, tending her garden, cleaning, sewing, or doing something to help someone else. Her work ethic was unmatched, and her heart was always open.
She dedicated her life to taking care of others. Whether it was her own children, grandchildren, neighbors, or even complete strangers, Sheila believed in the power of kindness. Her home was a safe haven to many, always filled with the aroma of delicious Creole dishes, warm laughter, and heartfelt stories. If you came to her door hungry, you left full. If you came with a burden, you left with comfort. That was the kind of woman she was—nurturing, compassionate, and wise.
As a mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Sheila’s influence ran deep. She was the glue that held the family together, the one who remembered every birthday, who never missed a Sunday at church, and who taught generations about the value of honesty, humility, and hard work. Her voice was both soothing and strong; her advice was always delivered with love, even when it was hard to hear.
Despite the many hardships life threw her way, Sheila never allowed adversity to dim her spirit. She was a woman of deep faith, often found with a rosary in hand or humming hymns as she went about her day. That quiet, steadfast faith gave her peace in this life—and it is what gives her family comfort in knowing that she is now resting in eternal peace.
Sheila leaves behind a legacy that cannot be measured in material things but in the lives she touched, the lessons she taught, and the love she gave so freely. Though she has departed this earth, her spirit will live on in her children’s laughter, in the scent of jasmine in the garden, and in the melodies of old Creole songs passed down through generations.
To her family and friends, she was not just a loved one—she was a blessing. Her passing leaves a void that will never be filled, but her memory will continue to guide and inspire.
She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and countless relatives and friends who will forever cherish her memory. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to all those who have offered prayers, support, and kind words during this difficult time.
Dorothy “Sheila” Antoine, you were a light in our lives—a light that will never be extinguished. Rest in peace, Mam. You will be sorely missed but never forgotten. We love you endlessly.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” —Matthew 25:23
