WARANA, QUEENSLAND — Tragedy has struck the peaceful coastal suburb of Warana, as police have officially charged two teenage boys with murder following the sudden and violent death of a 57-year-old man earlier this week. The shocking incident has sent ripples of grief, anger, and disbelief throughout the local community, where violent crime is rare and the victim was well-regarded.
According to Queensland Police, emergency services were called to a home in Warana just after 10:30 p.m. on Sunday night, after reports of a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers found the 57-year-old man unresponsive with critical injuries. Despite the best efforts of paramedics, he was declared deceased at the scene.
Authorities quickly launched a comprehensive investigation, with detectives from the Sunshine Coast Criminal Investigation Branch leading the case. Forensic teams scoured the crime scene for clues, while officers canvassed the neighborhood, reviewing CCTV footage and interviewing potential witnesses.
Within 48 hours, police arrested two teenage boys — aged 15 and 16 — in connection with the incident. The teens were taken into custody without incident and later formally charged with murder. Superintendent Craig Hawkins addressed the media on Wednesday morning, stating, “This is an incredibly tragic and disturbing case. The victim, whose name has not yet been officially released out of respect for his family’s privacy, was reportedly a long-time Warana resident and a quiet, friendly man who largely kept to himself.
