Four Arrested After Fight Escalates to Shooting in Adams County
ADAMS COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – A quiet evening on Deerfield Road in Adams County was shattered by violence on July 11, 2025, after a confrontation spiraled out of control, resulting in a brutal assault, a shooting, and the arrest of four individuals. What began as a seemingly minor disagreement quickly devolved into chaos, highlighting the unpredictable and often dangerous consequences of unresolved tensions.
According to Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten, deputies were dispatched to the 100 block of Deerfield Road following reports of a physical altercation and gunfire. When officers arrived, they found 34-year-old Reginald Butler seriously injured. Witnesses told investigators that the confrontation had originated over a cigarette check—an exchange that initially appeared trivial but escalated rapidly and violently.
Sheriff Patten confirmed that Butler had been approached by a group of individuals when the situation took a violent turn. The altercation became physical, and Butler was allegedly attacked by multiple people. Emergency responders transported him to a nearby hospital where he was treated for a fractured nose, severe facial injuries, and a suspected concussion.
