In Loving Memory of Deputy Sheriff Antonio Aleman

A deep veil of sorrow has fallen over the law enforcement community and the residents of Doña Ana County following the tragic death of Deputy Sheriff Antonio Aleman. On a quiet Tuesday evening, July 8, 2025, at approximately 5:00 p.m., Deputy Aleman’s life was cut short in a devastating automobile accident while he was honorably serving his community. The accident occurred on eastbound Interstate 10 near the Avenida de Mesilla exit, a route he had traveled countless times in the line of duty.

According to initial reports, Deputy Aleman’s patrol vehicle collided with the rear of a semi-truck under circumstances that are still under investigation. He was immediately transported to MountainView Regional Medical Center in Las Cruces, where medical teams fought valiantly to save his life. Despite their efforts, Deputy Aleman succumbed to his injuries, leaving behind a grieving family, a devastated department, and a heartbroken community.

Deputy Aleman was more than a law enforcement officer; he was a protector, a mentor, and a steadfast pillar in the lives of those he served. His commitment to duty and public safety was unwavering. Colleagues recall his dedication as unmatched, his work ethic exemplary, and his character deeply grounded in humility and compassion. Whether patrolling the streets, responding to emergencies, or comforting a community in distress, Deputy Aleman gave his all without hesitation or expectation of praise.

Born and raised in New Mexico, Antonio Aleman had always possessed a calling to serve. He joined the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office driven by a sense of purpose and a love for justice. Over the years, he earned the respect of his peers and the trust of the community through his integrity and courage. Fellow deputies speak of his ever-ready smile, his calm demeanor under pressure, and his unwavering support for his brothers and sisters in uniform.

His loss is felt far beyond the badge. As a son, brother, father, and friend, Antonio brought warmth, humor, and love into every space he occupied. He was a man who could be counted on in every way—from holiday barbecues to tough times no one else saw. The grief that echoes across Doña Ana County is a testament to the countless lives he touched, both professionally and personally.

In the wake of his passing, tributes have poured in from across the state and beyond. Blue ribbons line fences, patrol cars bear mourning bands, and candlelight vigils are being planned in his memory. The Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office has vowed to honor his sacrifice by continuing to serve with the same honor, courage, and compassion that defined Deputy Aleman’s life.

Sheriff Kim Stewart expressed the department’s collective grief, saying, “Deputy Aleman was one of the best among us. He was committed to service and to the people of this county. His loss is a tragedy that words cannot adequately express. We will never forget him, and we will carry his memory with us in every shift we work, every call we answer.”

Plans are underway for a full law enforcement funeral with honors, as the department, family, and community prepare to lay their hero to rest. His legacy, however, will live on—in the stories told by his fellow deputies, in the safety of a community he helped protect, and in the example he set for all who follow in his footsteps.

Deputy Sheriff Antonio Aleman was a true public servant whose watch has now ended. As the community mourns, they also give thanks—for his bravery, for his life, and for the ultimate sacrifice he made in the name of duty.

May he rest in eternal peace.
