The fatal crash occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at approximately 6:06 AM, prompting an immediate response from local law enforcement, fire services, EMS, and highway officials. Upon arrival, emergency responders discovered a serious accident involving a passenger vehicle and a large tanker truck.
Preliminary reports from the Menominee County Sheriff’s Office indicate that the crash occurred under unclear circumstances, which are still under active investigation. However, the severity of the impact was apparent, as one occupant of the passenger vehicle was tragically pronounced deceased at the scene.
Another passenger in the same vehicle suffered serious injuries and was initially transported by ground ambulance to Aurora Medical Center – Bay Area. Due to the extent of their injuries, the individual was later airlifted to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, for more advanced and specialized medical care.
A third person involved in the collision—whose role in the crash is still being evaluated—was also transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment. Their condition has not been made public, but officials confirmed that they were responsive at the time of transport.
The driver of the tanker truck was reportedly unharmed but remained on scene and is cooperating fully with investigators.
Law enforcement authorities have not yet released the name of the deceased, pending notification of next of kin.
Sheriff Kudwa and investigators from the Menominee County Sheriff’s Office, alongside accident reconstruction specialists, are working to determine the cause of the crash. It remains unclear at this time whether weather, road conditions, driver error, or mechanical failure played any role.
The section of M-35 near Elmwood Road was temporarily shut down for several hours to allow crews to clear debris, secure the tanker truck, and conduct a thorough investigation. Drivers were urged to avoid the area and follow posted detours during the morning commute.
In a public statement, Sheriff Kudwa expressed deep sympathy for those affected by the tragedy:
“Our hearts are with the families impacted by this terrible accident. Losing a life so suddenly and tragically is something no family should have to endure. We ask the public to keep all those involved in their thoughts and prayers.”
Local residents in Menominee Township and surrounding communities have begun to express condolences and support for the families involved. Online posts have called for community unity and compassion, and several have asked that people refrain from speculation as the investigation continues.
This incident marks another tragic reminder of the dangers present on rural highways and the importance of cautious, alert driving—especially during early morning hours when visibility and road conditions can be challenging.
The Menominee County Sheriff’s Office will provide further updates as more information becomes available, including the names of those involved, once families have been notified.
The community now mourns the life lost and hopes for the recovery of those injured, holding their loved ones close and reflecting on the fragile nature of life.
