In Loving Memory of Ryan Gene Walters
Kankakee, Illinois

With heavy hearts and profound sorrow, we announce the untimely passing of Ryan Gene Walters, who tragically lost his life on Monday, July 7, 2025, due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident in Kankakee, Illinois. Ryan was just 30 years old, a vibrant and kind-hearted soul taken far too soon.

Ryan was more than just a name in the community — he was a beloved son, brother, friend, and a spirited member of Kankakee who touched the lives of everyone he met. Known for his infectious laugh, adventurous heart, and genuine compassion, Ryan carried a warmth that made people feel seen, heard, and valued.

Born and raised in Kankakee, Ryan embraced life with a bold passion. From an early age, he showed an aptitude for mechanics and motorcycles. It was a passion that followed him throughout life — whether restoring bikes, helping friends with their rides, or cruising the scenic backroads of Illinois. For Ryan, the road was freedom. It was a place where he felt most alive.

He graduated from Kankakee High School in 2013 and later attended Kankakee Community College, where he earned a degree in automotive technology. He was respected not only for his technical skill but for his strong work ethic and the way he treated everyone with kindness and respect. Ryan worked at several local auto shops over the years, becoming a trusted mechanic and friend to many.

Ryan loved the simple joys of life: grilling out with family, jamming to classic rock, and going on spontaneous road trips. He had an unbreakable bond with his younger sister, Emily, whom he affectionately called “Em.” To his parents, he was a protective and loving son, always checking in and making sure they were okay. To his friends, he was the glue — the one who organized late-night bonfires, stepped in during hard times, and never failed to lift spirits with his quick wit.

His death has left an immense void in the hearts of his loved ones and the entire Kankakee community. A place often defined by its rich farmland, historic charm, and tight-knit neighborhoods, Kankakee now mourns the loss of one of its own. Ryan’s passing is not just a family’s tragedy — it is a collective heartbreak for all who knew him.

He is survived by his mother and father, Gene and Lisa Walters of Kankakee; his sister Emily Walters of Bourbonnais; his grandparents, Harold and Darlene Simmons; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who adored him. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents and his beloved rescue dog, Max, who was often seen by his side on walks around town.

A celebration of Ryan’s life will be held at Schreffler Funeral Homes in Kankakee, with a visitation on Friday, July 11, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and funeral services to follow on Saturday, July 12 at 10:00 AM. Burial will take place at Mound Grove Gardens Cemetery. Friends, neighbors, and all those impacted by Ryan’s life are warmly invited to attend and pay their respects.

In honor of Ryan’s spirit and his love for the open road, the family kindly requests that attendees wear casual attire — jeans and biker boots encouraged — and encourages friends to ride in his memory. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bikers Against Child Abuse (BACA) or to a local animal shelter, causes close to Ryan’s heart.

Though his time here was tragically brief, Ryan Gene Walters’ memory will ride on in the hearts of all who knew him. He was a beacon of light, laughter, and loyalty — and though the road ahead feels lonelier without him, the imprint he left behind is eternal.

Rest easy, Ryan. The road may have ended, but your journey lives on in the stories, the memories, and the love that surrounds you. 🕊️💔
