Maine Man Charged with Murder After Fleeing to Florida Following Waldoboro Woman’s Death

WALDOBORO, Maine (WGME) — A Maine man has been charged with murder following the death of a Waldoboro woman last week, according to Maine State Police.

Authorities say 49-year-old James Clark, of Damariscotta, was taken into custody in Volusia County, Florida, after allegedly fleeing the state in the aftermath of the homicide. Clark is accused in the death of Levern Kelly, whose body was discovered in Waldoboro.

Following a swift investigation, law enforcement identified Clark as a suspect. A warrant was issued for his arrest, and he was located and apprehended in Florida with the assistance of local authorities.

Details surrounding the nature of the crime, including motive and cause of death, have not yet been publicly released. Investigators say Clark will face extradition proceedings to return to Maine, where he will be formally charged and stand trial.

Maine State Police have stated the investigation remains active and ongoing, with additional updates expected as the case develops.
