Kermit David Newman, age 92, peacefully passed away at his home in Statesboro, Georgia, on Thursday, August 14, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many, Kermit lived a full and faithful life, rooted in kindness, humility, and unwavering devotion to both his family and his faith.

Born on May 2, 1933, in Augusta, Georgia, Kermit was the beloved son of the late David Nathaniel Newman and Sula Mae Thompson Newman. He was raised in Stilson, Georgia, where he developed the values of hard work, integrity, and compassion that would guide him throughout his life. Growing up in a close-knit rural community, Kermit forged deep connections with family and neighbors and learned to appreciate the simple blessings of life — faith, family, fellowship, and music.

In 1957, Kermit relocated to Statesboro, Georgia, where he would begin a new chapter both personally and professionally. That same year, he married the love of his life, Patricia Henry. Their marriage, which spanned an incredible 67 years, was a testament to enduring love, mutual respect, and shared purpose. Together, they built a warm and welcoming home, raised a family grounded in faith and love, and created a legacy that will live on for generations.

Kermit was a deeply spiritual man and an active member of his local church, where he was cherished for his strong faith and generous heart. One of his greatest joys was singing — a gift he freely shared with his congregation, as well as with residents of nursing homes and senior centers across the region. Whether leading hymns on a Sunday morning or bringing comfort through song to those in care facilities, Kermit’s voice was both a source of inspiration and a beacon of hope to all who heard it.

Kermit’s warmth, humor, and gentle spirit endeared him to everyone he met. He had a natural ability to make people feel seen and valued, and he carried himself with a grace that reflected his deep moral convictions. In addition to his parents, Kermit was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia Newman; his son, Todd Newman; his brothers, Herman Newman, Hub Newman, and Hinton Newman; and his grandson, Adam Veitch. Though the loss of these dear family members brought sorrow, Kermit faced each hardship with quiet strength and unwavering faith.
