Two More Arrested in Deadly Tempe Town Lake Shooting

Tempe police have announced two additional arrests in the ongoing investigation into the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old boy near Tempe Town Lake in late July. Authorities confirmed Wednesday that 18-year-olds Jabriean Perry and Marlon Owens were taken into custody on Monday in connection with the case.

Both suspects are now facing multiple serious charges, including first-degree murder, endangerment, and disorderly conduct. These charges reflect the severity of the alleged actions that led to the teen’s death and endangered the safety of others in the vicinity.

The shooting, which occurred near one of Tempe’s most popular recreational areas, sent shockwaves through the community. Tempe Town Lake is typically a gathering place for families, joggers, and visitors — not a scene of deadly violence. Authorities have not yet released the name of the 17-year-old victim, pending notification of his family, but they have confirmed that the investigation has been active and complex from the start.

Police have been piecing together the events that led to the shooting, reviewing surveillance footage, interviewing witnesses, and following up on leads. While initial details remain limited, officials have indicated that there may have been a confrontation or dispute before the gunfire erupted.

Monday’s arrests of Perry and Owens mark a significant step forward in the case. They come after earlier developments in which another suspect was already taken into custody, though police have not yet clarified the exact roles each person is alleged to have played in the shooting.

Tempe Police Department officials have praised the diligent work of detectives and expressed gratitude to the community for providing tips and assistance in the investigation. “Our detectives have worked tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice,” a department spokesperson said. “While these arrests are an important milestone, our work is not yet over.”

The community remains on edge as details continue to emerge. Violent incidents involving teenagers have been a growing concern in the region, and this case has reignited calls for proactive measures to address youth violence, access to firearms, and conflict resolution.

Both Perry and Owens remain in custody as they await court appearances. If convicted on the first-degree murder charge, they could face life in prison.

As the legal process unfolds, Tempe police are urging anyone with additional information to contact the department or submit anonymous tips through Silent Witness. They hope continued community cooperation will help provide full clarity on the circumstances that led to this tragedy and ensure accountability for all involved.
