AURORA, Ill. — A 24-year-old man wanted in connection with a weekend shooting in west suburban Aurora is now in custody after voluntarily turning himself in, police confirmed Monday morning.
According to the Aurora Police Department, Aaron Conley, of Aurora, had been sought since early Sunday following a shooting in the 500 block of Station Boulevard. At approximately 6 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to reports of gunfire near a basketball court. Upon arrival, they found two men — ages 19 and 20 — suffering from gunshot wounds.
Paramedics with the Aurora Fire Department transported both victims to a nearby hospital. Police say the 19-year-old man sustained non-life-threatening injuries, while the 20-year-old man was listed in critical condition.
Preliminary investigations indicate the shooting may have stemmed from a domestic dispute. Detectives also confirmed that a firearm was recovered at the scene, and that there was no ongoing threat to the public.
Conley had remained at large for much of Sunday, prompting concern among residents. In a social media update posted early Monday, authorities announced that Conley had turned himself in to police, bringing an end to the short manhunt.
While officials have not released details regarding charges, the investigation remains active, with detectives working to gather witness statements and review any surveillance footage from the area.
Aurora Police thanked the community for their assistance and vigilance during the search, noting that public cooperation often plays a crucial role in safely resolving incidents like this.
Residents in the Station Boulevard area say the shooting was a shocking event for a typically quiet neighborhood. Many expressed relief that the suspect surrendered peacefully and emphasized the importance of continued community engagement in promoting safety.
Police have not provided an update on the condition of the critically injured victim but say more details will be released as the investigation progresses.
