We are deeply heartbroken to share the tragic news of the passing of Kolby Aipa, a young man whose energy, talent, and kindness left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him—both in and out of the water

Kolby was a standout surfer from the very beginning. In the early days, he lit up the lineup in our Grom Division during several of the RRR Surf Off contests, showing promise far beyond his years. It wasn’t just his surfing ability that caught everyone’s attention—it was his infectious stoke, his electric smile, and the way he carried himself with such genuine aloha. As he grew, Kolby seamlessly transitioned into the Juniors Division, bringing with him that same relentless passion, smooth style, and unshakable love for the ocean. He wasn’t just a competitor; he was a presence—someone you always remembered and rooted for.

But Kolby was more than just a gifted athlete. He was a good soul—the kind of person who made an impression with just a few words or a smile. He treated everyone around him with respect, kindness, and humility. In a sport that often celebrates bold personalities and individual achievements, Kolby stood out for being grounded, gracious, and humble. He was always amped to surf, always cheering others on, and always willing to lend a hand—whether it was helping groms wax their boards, packing up contest tents, or collecting trash after a long day at the beach.

Much of who Kolby was can be credited to the beautiful family that raised him. The Aipa ‘ohana were a familiar and beloved sight at every local beach event and community cleanup. They showed up early, stayed late, and always brought their love and aloha to every gathering. Their commitment to the surf community and the environment was matched only by the pride and love they had for Kolby. They were his biggest supporters, his rock, and his guiding light—and Kolby reflected that love in everything he did.

As we come to terms with this immense loss, we are reminded that life is precious and fragile, especially when someone so young and full of potential is taken from us too soon. The surf breaks, the beaches, and the lineups he once filled with energy and joy feel a little emptier today.

To Kolby’s family, friends, and the entire surf ‘ohana who mourn his loss—our hearts are with you. We grieve with you. We remember him with you. And we promise to carry his spirit forward in the water, in our hearts, and in our shared commitment to community, respect, and love for the ocean.

Rest easy, Kolby. Your time here may have been short, but your impact will be felt forever. May the waves rise to meet you, the wind be always at your back, and may you surf eternal glassy sets under sunlit skies. 🕊️🌊🏄‍♂️💙

Forever in our hearts, always in the lineup.
