Northeastern High School Teacher Arrested on Child Exploitation Charges

Elizabeth City, NC — Authorities have confirmed that Jesse Cassino, a teacher at Northeastern High School, is facing multiple charges related to child sexual exploitation following a raid conducted at his residence earlier this week.

According to officials, Cassino has been charged with several counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. The charges stem from an investigation that led law enforcement officers to execute a search warrant at his home on Chalk Street in Elizabeth City. During the search, officers reportedly uncovered numerous videos and digital materials depicting minors between the ages of 11 and 14 engaged in explicit sexual acts.

The investigation was a joint effort between local authorities and state cybercrime units, which had been tracking digital activity linked to Cassino. Authorities say the evidence recovered from his devices directly led to the criminal charges now filed against him.

Cassino, whose role at Northeastern High School included teaching and mentoring students, was immediately placed on administrative leave by the Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools pending the outcome of the criminal proceedings. In a statement released Tuesday, school officials expressed shock and stated they are cooperating fully with law enforcement.

“We are deeply disturbed by the nature of these allegations,” the school district said in a statement. “The safety and well-being of our students is our top priority. We are working with authorities to ensure a full and transparent investigation.”

Parents and community members reacted with outrage and disbelief following news of the arrest. Many are calling for stricter background checks and improved monitoring of school staff, especially those working directly with children.

“This is horrifying,” said parent Trina Wallace, whose son attends Northeastern High. “We trust these people with our kids. To hear something like this shakes your entire sense of safety.”

Cassino was taken into custody without incident and is currently being held at the Pasquotank County Detention Center. His bond has been set at $500,000, and his first court appearance is scheduled for later this week.

Authorities are continuing to investigate whether there are additional victims or if Cassino had any inappropriate contact with students at the school. They are urging anyone with information related to the case to come forward and contact the Elizabeth City Police Department or NC Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
