Cincinnati, OH — A late-night shooting in Cincinnati’s Over-the-Rhine neighborhood has left one man dead, prompting an active and ongoing investigation by local authorities. According to the Cincinnati Police Department, the incident occurred around 11 p.m. Tuesday night, leaving residents shaken and investigators searching for answers.
The victim has been identified as 35-year-old John Joshua Isome. Police reports confirm that Isome sustained gunshot wounds to both the head and chest. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene following multiple 911 calls reporting the sound of gunfire in the area. Upon arrival, officers discovered Isome suffering from life-threatening injuries. He was transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
Scene of the Crime
The shooting took place near the intersection of Race Street and Green Street, a few blocks north of Washington Park—a well-known area frequented by both residents and visitors. Police quickly cordoned off the scene with crime scene tape, securing the area for investigation. Several evidence markers were visible on the ground, and officers were seen interviewing witnesses and gathering surveillance footage from nearby buildings.
Investigators have not yet released any information about a possible suspect or motive. As of Wednesday morning, no arrests had been made.
Community Reaction
Residents of Over-the-Rhine expressed concern and sadness in the wake of the violence. The neighborhood, which has seen significant redevelopment in recent years, has been grappling with a spike in gun violence over the summer months.
“This is a tragedy, plain and simple,” said local resident Angela Morris, who lives two blocks from the scene. “You don’t expect this kind of violence in your own backyard. Something has to change.”
City Councilmember Reggie Harris, who represents the district that includes Over-the-Rhine, issued a statement early Wednesday urging community cooperation and patience as police continue their investigation.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of life in our community. My thoughts are with the family of Mr. Isome during this incredibly difficult time. I encourage anyone with information to come forward and help bring justice,” Harris said.
Ongoing Investigation
Homicide detectives are actively working the case and ask that anyone who was in the area at the time of the shooting or who may have relevant information contact the Cincinnati Police Department’s Homicide Unit at 513-352-3542. Tipsters can also remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 513-352-3040.
This marks yet another tragic incident in a year where the city has seen a worrying trend of violent crime. Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
As the investigation continues, police have promised a thorough inquiry and are reviewing forensic evidence, autopsy results, and witness statements in hopes of piecing together what led to the fatal shooting of John Joshua Isome.
