With heavy hearts and deep respect, we extend our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Charles Wayne Crawford, affectionately known to many as “Wildman” or simply “WC.” A proud native son of Plum Branch, South Carolina, Wayne passed away peacefully at his home on Collier Street on Saturday, August 2, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family after a life well lived.
Born on July 22, 1946, Wayne was the cherished son of the late Charles Willie Crawford and Birdre White Crawford. He was a graduate of McCormick High School, where his early roots in hard work, loyalty, and community spirit first began to blossom. Known for his strong work ethic, Wayne went on to devote his life to the demanding but rewarding trade of ironwork and crane operation—a career that became both his livelihood and his passion.
Those who knew Wayne best knew that he didn’t just build structures—he helped build the very foundation of cities and skylines, one steel beam at a time. His hands bore the stories of a life spent operating cranes and working steel, a trade he took immense pride in. Whether hoisting massive steel beams into place or mentoring young workers on a job site, Wayne was a master of his craft, respected by many across the industry.
But the true beauty of Wayne’s life went far beyond his profession. Known as a devoted family man, Wayne’s eyes would light up at the mention of his grandchildren. He loved nothing more than showing off their pictures and sharing stories about their latest achievements. He was happiest when surrounded by family—his enduring love and presence served as the steady heartbeat of the Crawford household.
Wayne was also a man who knew how to enjoy life to the fullest. He had a deep love for motorcycles, the open road calling him with a freedom that matched his spirited nature. A dancer at heart, he never missed a chance to enjoy good music and better company. His zest for life was contagious, and his laughter could brighten any room. Those who danced beside him or rode alongside him will always remember his energy and fearless joy.
A man of deep faith, Wayne was a devoted Christian and a proud member of Plum Branch Baptist Church. His beliefs guided his actions, and his life was a testimony to strength, generosity, and unwavering love. Whether in church, at work, or among friends, Wayne brought kindness, humor, and humility to every space he entered.
His presence will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. To the community of Plum Branch, Wayne was more than just a neighbor—he was a symbol of resilience, pride, and southern spirit. To his family, he was everything: a steadfast husband, a loving father, an adoring grandfather, and a true Wildman in the best sense of the word.
As we celebrate the life of Charles Wayne “WC” Crawford, we honor not only what he built with his hands but also what he gave with his heart. His story will live on in the laughter of his grandchildren, the steel of every structure he helped raise, and the lives he touched with his kindness and courage.
May he rest in eternal peace, and may his family be comforted by the countless memories they shared and the immeasurable love that will never fade.
