With heavy hearts and unimaginable sorrow, we mourn the sudden and tragic loss of Ryan Wattigney, who passed away on Saturday, August 2, 2025, after going into anaphylactic shock. He was only 39 years old.

Ryan’s passing has left a profound void in the lives of all who knew and loved him. Born on March 15, 1986, Ryan was a bright light, a source of strength, laughter, and compassion to his family, friends, and the countless others who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him. His death was unexpected, and the sheer suddenness of it has shaken our hearts and spirits to their core.

A resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Ryan was widely known for his kindness, easy smile, and a personality that could light up even the darkest room. Whether he was helping a neighbor with yard work, mentoring a friend through tough times, or volunteering at local community events, Ryan’s presence was felt in powerful, positive ways. He had a way of making everyone feel seen, heard, and valued—a rare gift that made him beloved in every circle he was part of.

Professionally, Ryan was an exceptionally dedicated and passionate man. As a project manager in the construction industry, he was known for his meticulous attention to detail, leadership, and integrity. He poured himself into his work not just to complete projects, but to build things that would serve families and communities for years to come. His coworkers and clients alike admired his calm demeanor, problem-solving mindset, and steadfast commitment to excellence.

But perhaps Ryan’s most cherished role in life was that of a son, brother, uncle, partner, and friend. He was fiercely devoted to his family, always making time for Sunday dinners, birthdays, and spontaneous road trips. His bond with his nieces and nephews was unmatched—they adored him for his playful spirit, his sense of adventure, and the way he made each one feel like the most important person in the world. He loved deeply and lived generously, and that legacy of love will never fade.

Those closest to him knew Ryan had a life-threatening allergy, and he was always careful—carrying his EpiPen, asking the right questions, and avoiding known risks. That’s what makes his passing all the more difficult to comprehend. It was a tragic and rare convergence of events that took him from us far too soon. His death is a sobering reminder of the silent dangers some people live with daily and the importance of awareness and preparedness when it comes to anaphylaxis.

In the days following his passing, tributes have poured in from all over—former classmates, coworkers, lifelong friends, and those who only met Ryan once or twice but were still impacted by his warmth and sincerity. Stories of his selflessness, sense of humor, and unwavering loyalty fill social media feeds and family conversations. It’s clear Ryan touched many lives, far more than he likely ever realized.

As we mourn his loss, we also celebrate the life he lived. A life full of meaning, connection, and generosity. We remember the way his laughter could echo through a room, the long conversations over coffee, the spontaneous acts of kindness, and the quiet strength he carried even in challenging times.

Ryan is survived by his loving parents, Michael and Linda Wattigney; his sister, Jenna Wattigney Carter and her husband, Brian; his brother, Derek Wattigney; nieces and nephews Madison, Caleb, and Eliza, whom he loved with all his heart; and his longtime partner, Amanda Shaw, with whom he shared a beautiful, love-filled life. He is also survived by a large extended family and countless friends who will carry his memory with them forever.

A memorial service to honor Ryan’s life will be held on Friday, August 8, at Gracepoint Community Church in Baton Rouge. The family invites everyone to attend and encourages those who knew Ryan to share their memories, stories, and photos, so that together we can remember the joy he brought into the world.

Though his time with us was far too short, Ryan Wattigney made an impact that will last lifetimes. His presence may be gone, but his light will never dim. May we continue to honor him by living as he did—with compassion, courage, and heart.

Rest peacefully, Ryan. You are loved beyond measure and missed beyond words.
