In Loving Memory of Billy Dewain Hendrix
March 21, 1947 – August 1, 2025

It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Billy Dewain Hendrix, age 78, who departed this life peacefully on Friday, August 1, 2025, at the Ogeechee Area Hospice inpatient facility in Statesboro, Georgia. A beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Billy’s passing marks the end of a remarkable life defined by hard work, devotion, and unwavering love for his family and community.

Billy was born on March 21, 1947, in Statesboro, Georgia, to the late Ira Hendrix and Esther Rigdon Hendrix. Growing up in the warm and tight-knit surroundings of Bulloch County, Billy developed a deep connection to his hometown, its values, and the people who made it home. A proud graduate of Southeast Bulloch High School, class of 1965, Billy embraced the spirit of dedication and determination from a young age. Those who knew him during his school years remember a kind-hearted, humble young man with a generous smile and a steady hand.

Following high school, Billy pursued a life rooted in service, family, and hard work. Over the years, he wore many hats and found great pride in a long and fulfilling career—often known as the man who could be counted on for anything, Billy was steady as the Georgia pines. He built a reputation as someone who worked with integrity and treated others with honesty and respect. Whether on the job, in the community, or around the dinner table, he lived by his word.

In 1970, Billy married the love of his life, and together they built a life rich in love, laughter, and family. He was a devoted husband who cherished the quiet moments as much as the big celebrations. As a father, he was nurturing and firm, instilling in his children the same values that guided him—hard work, respect for others, love for God, and the importance of doing right by your neighbor. His children remember his steady guidance, his gentle advice, and the countless ways he showed his love, often without ever needing to say the words.

Billy’s love for family extended to the next generation. As a grandfather, his heart overflowed with joy. He delighted in attending ball games, school performances, and Sunday dinners, always making his grandchildren feel like the center of his world. His gentle humor, storytelling, and quiet wisdom left a lasting mark on their hearts.

A man of faith, Billy was a lifelong member of his local church, where he served humbly and faithfully in various roles through the years. Whether helping maintain the church grounds, ushering on Sundays, or quietly supporting those in need, his contributions were never for show but came from a sincere heart rooted in Christian principles. He believed in living his faith, not preaching it.

Billy was also a lover of the simple joys of life—front porch rocking chairs at sunset, listening to classic country music, working in the yard, fishing on a warm Georgia morning, or sipping a cup of coffee while catching up with old friends. He never needed grandeur to find happiness; instead, he found it in everyday blessings and the people he loved.

In addition to his parents, Billy is preceded in death by several beloved family members and lifelong friends who now welcome him with open arms.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, his children,  grandchildren,  cherished siblings, extended family members, dear friends, and neighbors who will feel his absence deeply but hold onto the memory of a man who lived a meaningful, honorable life.
