Henderson ISD Mourns the Tragic Loss of Two Beloved Young Lives
Henderson Independent School District is heartbroken to share the devastating news of a tragic automobile accident that claimed the lives of two precious members of our community. On the evening of July 28, 2025, Kyla Henderson and Aubree Edney lost their lives in a crash that has left our district, our city, and countless hearts in mourning.
Kyla Henderson, a bright and compassionate former HISD student, touched the lives of many during her years in our schools. She was known for her warm spirit, radiant smile, and the kindness she showed to everyone she encountered. Kyla’s journey through our school system left an indelible mark on teachers, classmates, and staff alike. Though she had moved on from our classrooms, she remained part of the fabric of our district — an example of the strong, resilient, and caring young people we strive to nurture. Her loss is deeply felt across our community.
Aubree Edney was preparing to enter sixth grade this fall, full of hope, curiosity, and promise. She was excited about starting middle school — a new chapter she was ready to embrace with the same joy and determination she brought to everything she did. Known for her big heart, her bubbly personality, and her love for learning, Aubree brightened every space she entered. Her teachers speak of her with love and admiration, recalling a student whose laughter was infectious and whose presence brought happiness to her peers.
To lose two such vibrant young souls is an unfathomable tragedy. As a district, we are reeling from the pain of this loss. Our hearts are with the Henderson and Edney families during this unimaginably difficult time. We also extend our deepest sympathies to the friends, classmates, teachers, and neighbors who are mourning alongside them. No words can fully express the sorrow we feel or the depth of this grief.
In the days ahead, Henderson ISD will be offering grief counseling and support services to students and staff. We encourage anyone affected by this loss to reach out — whether to talk, to cry, or simply to be surrounded by people who care. We understand that each person processes grief in their own way, and we are here to provide comfort, strength, and support however we can.
In honor of Kyla and Aubree, we will be organizing a remembrance gathering where students, faculty, and community members can come together to celebrate their lives and share memories. Details will be provided as plans are finalized.
To those who knew Kyla and Aubree personally — we see your pain and stand with you. To those who may not have known them, we ask that you hold their families in your hearts and keep them in your prayers. Their absence will be felt profoundly, but their impact — their love, their energy, their dreams — will never be forgotten.
May Kyla Henderson and Aubree Edney rest in eternal peace. Their lives, though far too short, were filled with light and meaning. We will honor them by remembering their spirits, supporting one another, and continuing to foster a school community grounded in love, empathy, and resilience.
With heavy hearts,
Henderson Independent School District
