I am truly shocked, stunned, and deeply saddened to share the heartbreaking news of the unexpected passing of a dear friend and a beloved figure in the radio community, Ben McGiffert—known to many as Gentle Ben McGriff. For those of us who had the privilege of knowing him, especially through his friendship with former Radio Amigo, J. Kmiec, this loss hits incredibly hard.

Ben was not just a radio personality; he was a genuinely funny, warm-hearted soul who brought light, laughter, and kindness wherever he went. His quick wit and infectious humor made every conversation with him an absolute joy. Whether on air or off, Ben had a way of connecting with people that felt effortless yet profoundly genuine. His presence was a gift to everyone who knew him, and his voice—a familiar, comforting presence on the airwaves—resonated with countless listeners who admired his talent and spirit.

I first got to know Ben through our mutual friend, J. Kmiec, who often spoke highly of Ben’s sharp sense of humor and his unwavering loyalty as a friend. Together, they shared many moments that showed their dedication not only to the craft of radio but to building a community around the medium. Their camaraderie and mutual respect were evident, and through them, many of us came to appreciate the warmth and authenticity Ben brought to the radio world.

Ben’s unexpected passing leaves a void that feels impossible to fill. It’s a stark reminder of how fragile life can be, and how quickly we can lose those who have touched our hearts in the most meaningful ways. His legacy is not just in the shows he hosted or the laughs he shared, but in the kindness he showed and the friendships he nurtured.

As I reflect on Ben’s life, I am overwhelmed with gratitude for having known such a good soul. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to call him a friend. May we all find comfort in the memories he left behind, and may his spirit continue to inspire those of us who carry the love for radio and for each other in our hearts.

Rest in peace, Gentle Ben McGriff. You will be profoundly missed but never forgotten.
