In Loving Memory of William Starr (2004 – 2025)
Kershaw County, South Carolina
It is with broken hearts and profound sadness that we share the passing of William Starr, a cherished young man whose life was tragically cut short in a devastating car crash on July 21, 2025, in Kershaw County, South Carolina. William was just 21 years old—a young life filled with promise, hope, laughter, and kindness. His sudden departure has left an unfillable void in the lives of his family, friends, and the entire community who loved him dearly.
Born in 2004, William was known for his bright spirit, magnetic personality, and compassionate heart. From a young age, he radiated joy and kindness wherever he went. Whether it was through a helping hand, an encouraging word, or his infectious smile, William made people feel seen, heard, and loved.
A graduate of Lugoff-Elgin High School, William was a student who stood out not only for his intelligence and determination but also for his respectfulness and humility. Teachers and classmates alike remember him as someone who brought light into every room. He had dreams of building a future that blended his love for people, technology, and creativity—dreams that now live on in the hearts of those who knew him best.
Outside of school and work, William had a passion for cars, music, and sports. He was often found working on vehicles with his friends, playing basketball at the local courts, or blasting his favorite tunes while driving with the windows down. He was a loyal friend—funny, genuine, and fiercely supportive of those he loved. His ability to listen, to truly be there, made him someone people turned to in both celebration and crisis.
But above all, William was a beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, and friend. He held a special bond with his parents and siblings, who adored his playful spirit and his unwavering love for family. His kindness was not a performative act—it was embedded in who he was. Whether it was surprising his little sister with her favorite snacks, helping his mom with chores without being asked, or checking in on his grandmother just to chat, William was the heartbeat of his family.
The news of his passing has sent ripples of grief across Kershaw County and beyond. The community has come together in an outpouring of support, sharing memories, tears, and prayers for the Starr family. Candlelight vigils, online tributes, and social media posts filled with love speak to the extraordinary impact William had in such a short time on earth.
William Starr’s memory will live on in the laughter he brought, the friendships he nurtured, and the love he gave so freely. Though his time here was far too brief, the legacy he leaves is one of warmth, generosity, and light.
He is survived by his loving parents, siblings, grandparents, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and a wide circle of friends who are all shattered by this unimaginable loss.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Powers Funeral Home in Lugoff, with visitation beginning at 12:30 PM. A graveside service will follow at Quaker Cemetery, where William will be laid to rest among generations of loved ones. All are welcome to attend and celebrate the life of a beautiful soul gone too soon.
In honor of William’s love for helping others, the family kindly requests donations in his memory be made to local youth outreach programs or mental health awareness charities, causes close to William’s heart.
