BREAKING NEWS: Troy Police Investigate 9th Street Shooting – Gunshots Caught on Ring Camera
TROY, NY — A quiet summer evening turned tense and chaotic last night as gunfire erupted on 9th Street in Troy, prompting an immediate and ongoing investigation by local authorities. According to preliminary information released by the Troy Police Department early this morning, one individual was shot in the incident. Fortunately, officials have confirmed that the injuries sustained are non-life-threatening.
The shooting reportedly occurred around 10:45 p.m., sending nearby residents into panic as the sound of multiple gunshots shattered the night’s silence. A neighbor’s Ring doorbell camera, which was recording at the time, captured the frightening moment when the shots rang out. The video, now circulating widely online, contains clear audio of the rapid gunfire and has become a key piece of evidence in the investigation.
Troy Police responded quickly to the scene following several 911 calls reporting gunfire in the area. Officers arrived to find a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency medical responders treated him on the scene before transporting him to a nearby hospital for further evaluation. Authorities have not released the victim’s identity but reiterated that his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Detectives and crime scene investigators worked through the night and into the early morning hours, canvassing the area, collecting evidence, and speaking to neighbors and potential witnesses. Investigators are also reviewing footage from nearby surveillance cameras — including the Ring video — to determine the events leading up to the shooting and to identify any possible suspects.
At this time, no arrests have been made, and police have not publicly released any information about potential suspects or motives. However, authorities are urging anyone with additional video footage, information, or eyewitness accounts to come forward to aid in the ongoing investigation.
“We are actively working to identify the person or persons responsible for this shooting,” said a Troy Police spokesperson during a brief press conference this morning. “We’re fortunate that the victim’s injuries were not more serious. We’re asking for the public’s help to ensure those responsible are held accountable.”
The shooting has understandably shaken residents of the 9th Street neighborhood, many of whom say they are deeply concerned by the recent uptick in gun-related incidents in the city. Several neighbors reported hearing at least six to seven shots in rapid succession.
“We were just getting ready for bed when we heard it — pop, pop, pop. It was so loud and so close,” said one resident, who asked to remain anonymous. “I ran to check on my kids and made sure all our doors were locked. This kind of thing shouldn’t be happening in our community.”
As the investigation continues, Troy Police have increased patrols in the area to reassure residents and deter any further violence. The department is also working in coordination with state and federal law enforcement agencies to track down any leads.
This latest shooting marks another concerning chapter in the city’s ongoing struggle with gun violence. Community leaders and advocacy groups are once again calling for enhanced safety measures, better community-police partnerships, and investment in youth engagement programs to prevent future tragedies.
Anyone with information related to the shooting is urged to contact the Troy Police Department’s Detective Division at (518) 270-4421 or submit an anonymous tip via Capital Region Crime Stoppers.
