Whitakers Man Arrested in West Raleigh Boulevard Shooting Over the Weekend

Rocky Mount, NC — A weekend shooting that left one individual injured has led to the arrest of a Whitakers man, now facing multiple felony charges. According to the Rocky Mount Police Department (RMPD), 30-year-old Daquan Terrek Johnson was taken into custody following a disturbing incident early Sunday morning involving gunfire at a local convenience store.

The shooting occurred around 2:15 a.m. at the Food Mart located at the busy intersection of Nashville Road and West Raleigh Boulevard. Witnesses say the parking lot was relatively calm until gunshots suddenly rang out, causing panic among customers and employees. Officers responding to the scene quickly secured the area and located a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the back.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Johnson allegedly fired multiple rounds into an occupied vehicle, striking the victim and putting other nearby patrons at serious risk. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, but detectives are continuing to gather evidence and review surveillance footage from the surrounding area.

As a result of the investigation, Johnson has been formally charged with the following offenses:

  • Discharging a Firearm Within City Limits

Authorities reported that Johnson was taken into custody without incident later that day and booked into the Nash County Detention Center. He is currently being held on a $25,000 secured bond.

The injured victim, whose identity has not been released for privacy reasons, was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. As of the latest update, the individual remains in stable condition and is expected to recover.
