WELLSBORO, Pa. — With heavy hearts, the community of Wellsboro mourns the tragic loss of Jaylen Chad Hege, a vibrant 15-year-old whose life was cut far too short on July 9, 2025.
Jaylen’s sudden passing has left a deep void in the lives of his family, friends, classmates, and neighbors. Known for his kind heart, radiant smile, and boundless energy, Jaylen was a beloved son, a cherished friend, and a beacon of light to all who had the joy of knowing him. His unexpected departure has left the entire town in shock, grappling with immense sorrow and disbelief.
Born on March 14, 2010, Jaylen was a lifelong resident of Wellsboro. From a young age, he stood out as someone special — thoughtful, compassionate, and always eager to help others. Whether he was volunteering at community events, cheering up a friend who was feeling down, or simply sharing a laugh in the school hallways, Jaylen had an extraordinary way of making everyone feel valued and seen.
A student at Wellsboro Area High School, Jaylen was admired by teachers and peers alike for his positive attitude and natural leadership. He was passionate about sports, particularly soccer and basketball, where he demonstrated not only skill but also great sportsmanship and team spirit. Off the field, Jaylen had a love for music and enjoyed playing guitar, often sharing snippets of his favorite songs with friends and family.
Jaylen had dreams that reached far beyond the boundaries of his small town. He aspired to one day work in environmental science, hoping to make the world a better place. He was known for his deep love of nature — spending countless hours hiking local trails, exploring Pine Creek Gorge, and marveling at the stars in the quiet night sky.
More than anything, Jaylen will be remembered for his heart. His kindness was effortless and his laughter contagious. Jaylen is survived by his loving parents, Chad and Melissa Hege; his younger sister, Ella; grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many extended family members who adored him beyond measure.
